The newly crafted idol of Lord Ram was ceremoniously placed inside Ayodhya’s Ram Temple before the ‘pran pratishtha’ or consecration ceremony scheduled for 22 January. The first glimpse of the 51-inch idol, sculpted by Mysuru-based artist Arun Yogiraj from black stone, was shared by Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje. The image depicts Lord Ram as a five-year-old child in a standing posture.

The consecration rituals started on January 12, leading up to the highly anticipated ceremony on January 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be beforming perform the puja for the “Pran Pratistha” on that day. The rituals are being conducted by a team of priests led by Lakshmikant Dixit.

Prime Minister Modi is strictly adhering to a set of rules and rituals in preparation for the consecration ceremony. Modi has opted to sleep on the floor with only a blanket and is consuming only coconut water. In consideration of the sanctity of the occasion, he has urged the public not to visit Ayodhya on January 22 to avoid causing any disruptions to the proceedings, suggesting that visitors are welcome starting January 23.

As part of the nationwide celebration, Prime Minister Modi has encouraged every Indian to light a diya in their homes on January 22. The consecration event is expected to be attended by over 11,000 guests from various parts of the country and abroad, specially invited by the temple trust. The ceremony marks a historic moment as the dream of decades transforms into reality with the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
